Praying

I may have shared this poem with you before (because I like it very much) but, if I did, it bears repeating:

Praying

It doesn’t have to be
the blue iris, it could be
weeds in a vacant lot, or a few
small stones; just
pay attention, then patch

a few words together and don’t try
to make them elaborate, this isn’t
a contest but the doorway

into thanks, and a silence in which
another voice may speak.

  1. What beautiful speedwell, and what a true poem.

  2. I'm glad you like it, Paul.

I'm a huge admirer of Mary Oliver. The sheer craftsmanship of her verse is even more wonderful than the subject matter sometimes.
