Listening at the gates of the heart

Artist: Vasily Vereshchagin

Then there is the listening at the gates of the heart which has been closed for so long, and waiting for that mysterious inner voice to speak. When we hear it, we know it is the truth to which we must now surrender our lives.

Beth Ferris quoted in Finding What You Didn't Lose by John Fox

  1. Hi Ellie, You showed up in my google alerts and I followed the link to this site. I am blown away, because of the quote here. Very powerful, and profound. This is all interesting to me because I have created a book titled "Opening the Gates of the Heart: A Journey of Healing." It is a book of photographs of wrought-iron gates and accompanying prose that reflects my own healing journey from feelings of worthlessness and deep despair to joy and peace. You can see more about it on my weblog at http://www.gatelady.com.

Ah, having the gates of one's heart closed is such a sad and difficult place to be... I've been there most of my life. My inner voice spoke to me to photograph these gates, then to create the book. Finally, it spoke to me about telling my story, which is in the book. Anyway, I love this quote and it is so true. Unfortunately, many people do not know how to listen to their inner voice or won't follow it when they hear it due to fear, I guess.

I would love to start a dialogue with you if you are interested in that after you "meet" me in my video. Take care, Ellie!

  2. Hello, cj. I took a look at your blog and it is beautiful. I love gates - and photographs of gates. I haven't yet viewed your video but I'll make a point of that soon. Yes, I'll be happy to communicate with you.

    Every blessing!
