Life together

Artist: Anatoli Nenartovich

The political climate of late makes this a particularly important question, I think:

When the Stranger says: "What is the meaning of this city?
Do you huddle close together because you love each other?"
What will you answer? "We all dwell together
To make money from each other"? or "This is a community"?

-- T.S Eliot

  1. Have you been reading Eliot lately, Ellie?

I'll say this very quietly: he's my favourite poet.

  2. I won't tell, Cathy!

He used to be my favorite poet, actually. Then I found myself going nuts over Walt Whitman - probably because of living as an ex-pat and needing the connection with the U.S. And then, of course, my years in Ireland prompted something of a love affair with Seamus Heaney. So now, I don't really have a favorite as such.
