About those troubles

A repost that, undoubtedly, is timely for many.

Artist: Vincent van Gogh

Sometimes it's very difficult to counteract the false message of the "prosperity gospel" that is being so widely preached today. As a result, many people "lose their faith" when they are beset by difficulties. I really like the following:
God has not promised to take away our trials, but to help us to change our attitudes toward them. That is what holiness really is. In this life, happiness is rooted in our basic attitude toward reality.

  1. I so agree on the prosperity Gospel and the harm it has done. I think Keating's quote hits it right on the head too. Sadly much of the Gospel is misinterpreted by these kind of preachers.

  2. It is interesting you posted this picture with this quote. This picture has always made me want to kneel down, wrap my arms around him, and weep with him. His anguish is that which cannot be repaired with deeds or words; it can only be shared. At least in the sharing he knows he is not alone.

  3. Yes, I agree, Ciss.

And, Carolyn, I know what you mean. It is a very effective depiction of great, great distress.
