Asking the right questions

Artist: Sperindio Cagnola

I see much suffering related to the truly cruel teaching that if we believe the right things and do the right things that we'll prosper and have no serious difficulties in life. And so I find the following approach to be profound in a very powerful way:

In the final analysis, the questions of why bad things happen to good people transmutes itself into some very different questions, no longer asking why something happened, but asking how we will respond, what we intend to do now that it happened.

-Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

  1. In other words, ignore harsh realities and just accept them as "His will"?
As a "challenging moment"? "God moves in mysterious ways"?
    Pitiful and masochistic.

  2. Do keep hanging around, anonymous - you may well learn something.

  3. Methinks anonymous is none other than Mr. Robert Evans who shows us his caustic, nasty little self every once in a while...and it DOES seem, Cathy, that he does indeed hang around from time to time, depite the attempts I have made to shoo him from this site! The only difference now, is that he doesn't have the nerve to sign his name!

  4. Thanks, annie c. That's one troll I've not come across before. He never seems to read the actual post too closely before offering his already fixed opinions on the subject.

  5. Hi, Annie and Cathy. As you will notice next time you comment, I have instituted a new policy. I will delete all anonymous comments that are not signed. Let's see how that goes.

Of course, I can always enable comment moderation but I really would rather not do that. I want people who disagree to be able to have their say. They need to identify themselves in SOME way, however. I do, after all.

New policy: Anonymous posts must be signed or they will be deleted. Pick a name, any name (it could be Paperclip or Doorknob), but identify yourself in some way. Thank you.
