I'm delighted to have found the following proverb. It is really utterly lovely:
The most beautiful things in the universe are the starry heavens above us and the feeling of duty within us.
"Does not Wisdom call, does not understanding raise her voice? ...Hear, for I will speak noble things, and from my lips will come what is right." (Proverbs 8:1,6)
". . . the feeling of duty within us." This phrase keeps haunting me. How many of us have a sense of duty withing us? Is this something we are teaching the next generation? When I look at my parents' generation, they did so many things--very unpleasant things out of a sense of duty. I'm ashamed to say I'm not sure I would withstand a litmus test as to possessing and acting on a sense of duty.
