It grieves me enormously - truly it does - that so many Christians are caught up in self-loathing and believe that, in fact, they should not love themselves:

Indeed. It is worth noting that this is a different take on Christianity than that of much of Christendom - especially I think among Hispanic Catholics. But I am also reminded of how many Episcopalians love to repeat "we your unworthy servants" and the odd twist on Matthew 15:27 where the "Prayer of Humble Access" turns it inside out by saying, "We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under thy table."
