Sometimes I think that the most pernicious pollution of all is noise pollution. So it will not surprise you that I agree with this:
"The present state of the world and the whole of life is diseased. If I were a doctor and were asked for my advice, I should reply, 'Create silence'."
a powerful quote and image!
ReplyDeleteI'm really glad you like them, Roberta. This is another painting that I found a while back and have been saving. And that particular Kierkegaard quotation is a gem, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the painting, the light, the colors. Hues of blues, purples and lavender, with browns for contrast and the light through stained glass reflected on the steps. It's gorgeous, like a sunset painted on stone in three dimensions.
ReplyDeleteI guess, if I think about it, I like quiet well enough - meaning the absence of sound anyway. I didn't fully appreciate the absence of sound until tinnitus came upon me. Now the only way I can experience the absence of sound is to be so completely absorbed in something that I forget the ringing in my ears for a short while. But I don't think I'll ever 'get into' quiet as far as thoughts are concerned. For better or worse, my mind is almost always going.
Silence is the most blissful thing there is. I thank God every time I remember to think about it for silence.
ReplyDeleteYeah, me too, Cathy.
