Even more on the ordinary

Artist: Antonio Sicurezza

Just lately it has turned out that a number of the quotations or passages that have caught my eye for this blog have been about cultivating an appreciation for the ordinary. I really haven't gone looking for them. Rather, they seem to have come to me. So here's the latest one:

The eye that sees nobility and beauty in what another would regard as ordinary is the eye of prayer.

Wendy Beckett in The Gaze of Love

Maybe some of you remember having seen Wendy Beckett on television. She's a solitary nun who has used various works of art as focal points for her contemplation and then shared those observations with others.

  1. Such a lovely painting - my first thought being, an unknown to me Van Gogh and then I realized it was too light with the brushstrokes for him. It's very VG like though and beautifully a piece that can stand on its own merit. Nice to behold creative wonder at the beginning of my day:)

  2. Yes, I agree, Sunrise. Interestingly, when looking for an art piece to go with the Wendy Beckett quote I started off browsing through Van Gogh paintings but didn't find anything that really seemed to fit the bill. I was happy to have located the one I selected. I had never heard of Sicurezza before and am happy to know about him.

  3. I didn't see Wendy Beckett's series but that is such a wonderful quote I wish I had.

  4. I'm sure the series is available somewhere, Cathy - maybe even in small clips on YouTube. (I'll look.) The episodes were truly marvelous, by the way. She is very engaging in front of the camera.
