Assurance

I did not know Mr. Rogers had said that!

Did you know he was a Presbyterian minister?

Also, he was a vegetarian.

Here are a few other things he said:
You know, I think everybody longs to be loved, and longs to know that he or she is lovable. And, consequently, the greatest thing that we can do is to help somebody know that they're loved and capable of loving.
...
I believe that appreciation is a holy thing, that when we look for what's best in the person we happen to be with at the moment, we're doing what God does; so in appreciating our neighbor, we're participating in something truly sacred.
...
What do you think it is that drives people to want far more than they could ever use or need? I frankly think it's insecurity. How do we let the world know that the trappings of this life are not the things that are ultimately important for being accepted?
...
At the center of the universe is a loving heart that continues to beat and that wants the best for every person. Anything we can do to help foster the intellect and spirit and emotional growth of our fellow human beings, that is our job.
How very heartening, energizing and reassuring are all of these quotations!

You can get the pendant pictured above right here.

  2. "At the center of the universe is a loving heart. . . " and the heart of the universe is ultimate compassion. A pretty good way of thinking about the universe. Thank you, Ellie.

  4. Indeed, Roberta!

And I agree, Ruth and Carolyn. That last quote is my favorite of the group as well.

  5. I couldn't get to the service I normally attend today, and came back here looking for the Bach, and... this is all exactly waht I needed. Thank you.

I used to be terrified of getting sucked down the drain, when I was small. My logic was that the water was bigger than I was (I could even fit underneath it if I lay down!), and it certainly seemed to fit down the drain.

Falling through the cracks has been a pretty big pattern in my life until recently, but I never made the connection with going down the drain.

    Thanks again.

  6. I'm so glad this was meaningful and helpful to you, Song.

No doubt Mr. Rogers was very aware of this common childhood fear and that's why he said it!
