The reason for our existence

"Creation of Adam" from the Nuremberg Chronicles

To say that I am made in the image of God is to say that love is the reason for my existence, for God is love. Love is my true identity. Selflessness is my true self. Love is my true character. Love is my name.

- Thomas Merton, from A Book of Hours

What would happen if we knew - really knew in our bones - that Love is our true identity? How would that affect our mood, our self-concept, our behavior, our ability to express love ourselves?

  1. THANK YOU for this, Ellie...what a beautiful quote, and also a beautiful reflection on that quote... Feels like I just received a healthy dose of "spiritual food/energy", to be reminded of our true identity, in Jesus Christ...
